A Workout For The Holidays

The Christmas holiday period can be a difficult time to fit in a workout; with family visiting, kids at home, travelling, and inconvenient gym opening hours. Below is a short workout you can do to keep up your fitness regime during the holidays. You can do this workout anywhere, all you will need is a small area and a chair/step/bench.

Warm up:

10 second jogging intervals:

  1. Jog on the spot.
  2. Jog kicking your feet up behind you.
  3. Jog with bringing your knees up in front to hip height.

Repeat four times.

Workout:

Perform the following exercises in a circuit. Perform 10 repetitions of each exercise. Once completed, perform 8 repetitions of each exercise and ladder the circuit down to 2 repetitions.

  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Push ups
  • Tricep dips
  • Russian twists

The aim is to try and complete all of the workout with no/minimal rests.

If you are feeling up to it, and want to push yourself a bit more, you can ladder the circuit back up to 10 repetitions for each exercise.

Alternatively, you could start the workout by performing 10 repetitions of each exercise. Once completed, perform 9 repetitions of each exercise and ladder the circuit down to 1 repetition.

Cool down:

Go for a short walk to bring your heart rate down, then perform 5 minutes of stretching. Remember to stretch all muscles that you worked – legs, arms, shoulders, abs, chest and back.

Happy holidays!
