I have recently become a great fan of quinoa, a pseudo grain that unlike other grains, such as wheat and rice, it is high in protein and is considered a complete protein as it contains all nine essential amino acids. In addition to protein, quinoa features a range of other health-building nutrients, including fibre, phosphorus, magnesium and iron.
Today for lunch, I have made myself one of my favourite quick and easy salad recipes and I thought I would share it with you. This cous cous salad recipe is not just quick and easy to make, but most importantly, it is healthy and delicious!
I recently attended my beautiful niece's 1st birthday party, and my sister asked me to bring along a green salad. As it is currently winter, I decided to make a warm salad to suit the cold Canberra climate. The salad was a hit with the guests, and so I thought I would share it.
I'm an avid salad lover but with the days getting cooler (at least for us down in the southern hemisphere), salads aren't always as tempting as they are in the summer months. However, last night I made a chicken, roast potato an eggplant salad last night which is perfect for any season, as it can be served warm or cold. See the recipe below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Below is another favourite dip recipe of mine. This dip, along with hummus and beetroot dip, with raw vegetable sticks or rice crackers, makes a great morning or afternoon snack.
To maintain a healthy diet, it is important to have healthy snack readily available - to avoid bingeing on things you really don't want or need. A favourite snack of mine is to have a healthy dip with some sliced raw vegetables or a couple of water crackers.
It can be hard to find snacks that are both nutritious and tasty. Our supermarkets are lined with chips, biscuits, confectionery and cakes - which may be nice to eat, but are not healthy, and are not ideal daily snack foods.
Cous cous is a great versatile pasta that can be used as a side dish or made up into a nice healthy salad. The recipe below is one that I make quite regularly. I have it as a lunch dish by adding a small tin of flavoured salmon or tuna, take it as a side dish to a BBQ, or serve at home for dinner as a side to grilled chicken, fish or steak.
I make tabouleh quite regularly. It is a wonderful salad that I love to mix with a tin of tuna for a healthy lunch, have as a side with a main meal, or take to BBQs as a change to the standard green salad.
